Final Version - 10 Min Skit

KELSEY and DAVID are sitting in the living room; there is all matching furniture with huge red curtains on the windows. KELSEY is crying over her boyfriend and DAVID is trying to comfort her. It is late at night.

KELSEY
I can’t believe this could happen, how couldn’t I see it coming?

DAVID
It’s not your fault Kels, it’s his loss, you’re an amazing girl.

KELSEY
Well if I'm so amazing why the hell does he leave me for her?

DAVID
He was a loser anyway, you deserve-

KELSEY
Yeah blah blah I deserve better, that’s what you all say…. But what if there isn’t a better, Dave?... I love him.

DAVID
I know its hard, Kels, but you’re gonna make it through this. You just gotta keep your head –
[DAVID’S phone rings]

[On phone] Hey mom… yeah I know I was… I’ll be home soon I promise… now?... but Kelsey is having a hard time, her and - … cant I just- … ugh whatever!

[DAVID hangs up the phone violently]

[Angry] My mom is freaking out

KELSEY
[Grabs a Kleenex and wipes away her tears]
Why what happened?

DAVID
I was supposed to be home 20 minutes ago cuz I have to go in early tomorrow for Spanish

KELSEY
[Quietly] Oh I’m sorry, Dave, I’m fine really. You can go.

DAVID
Are you sure?... I can stay if -

KELSEY
I’m fine, really… I’ll see you tomorrow.

DAVID
Okay I’ll see you later… and Kels… stay strong okay? I’m always gonna be here for you, unlike that loser. Call me later if you need to.

[DAVID leaves and KELSEY walks to her room she slams her bedroom door closed and gets into bed. The lights dim as she drifts off into sleep still crying slightly. She wakes up the next morning and checks her messages on her phone.]

MESSAGE MACHINE
You have two new messages. First message February 3, 2008 at 10:47 p.m.

TANNER
Hey Kels it’s me Tanner… I heard what happened, you’re probably sleeping but if you’re not call me back so I can make sure you’re okay. Otherwise I’ll just see you tomorrow.

MESSAGE MACHINE
New message February 3, 2008 at 11:04 p.m.

JOHN
Hey girl, just seeing how your holdin’ up. Maybe we can get together later tomorrow to talk about everything… David told me you were having a tough night. I’ll see you at school tomorrow. Night!

[KELSEY walks into the kitchen where her parents are. Her dad is reading the news paper and drinking coffee as her mom is finishing up making breakfast]

MOM
Hey honey, how was your night? David was here pretty late...

KELSEY
I don’t really wanna talk about it… [Long pause] me and Kyle broke up.

MOM
Oh Kels, I’m so sorry. [Walks over and hugs her] I’m always gonna be here to talk if you need it… do you want some breakfast?

KELSEY
No I’m not hungry, thanks though.

[KELSEY gets her things together and goes to school. The scene switches to KELSEYS locker at school where she is greeted by JOHN, TANNER, JAKE, KYLE and KARA. KARA and KYLE are off to the side flirting while KELSEY is in a sad mood putting her books into her locker.]

TANNER
Hey, Kels, how are you feelin?

KELSEY
I don’t really wanna talk about it…

[KELSEY looks away and gets her books. She turns around quickly and starts going to class, walking away eagerly.]

DAVID
Hey Kels… wait up!

[KELSEY turns around and is relieved to see DAVID, he catches up to her and they walk together to class.]

DAVID
…So how you holdin’ up?

KELSEY
Eh… I’m doing okay; I can’t stand seeing them together… Did you see them flirting over there? I mean I was standing right there and we just broke up yesterday…

DAVID
Yeah I know I saw…at least you don’t have class with him. I swear if he says anything about Kara I’m going to smash his face in.

[They reach KELSEY’S classroom]

KELSEY
Yeah well I hope that goes well haha

[KELSEY waves goodbye and walks into class. DAVID walks a little farther and goes into his room; he sits down in his desk located right beside KYLE. They make no eye contact and it is awkward.]

KYLE
[Long pause] Hey…

DAVID
[Angry] Hi.

KYLE
So did you do your homework? I forgot to do mine…

DAVID
Yeah I did mine… I always do.

KYLE
Yeah I know that’s why I was asking… can I copy it quick?

DAVID
No … why do you just use everyone? Seriously. [Very angry]

[DAVID slams his book open and starts reading like everyone else in the class.]

KYLE
What are you talking about? I just asked for help on my homework…

DAVID
What you did to Kelsey was shallow, man, how could you do that?

KYLE
[Timid] what are you talking about?

DAVID
[Angry] You know what I’m talking about Kyle… you and Kara, that’s her best friend. You and Kelsey were together for so long and then you just end it like that outta no where.

[Kyle looks at David speechless]

…Yeah that’s what I thought.

[The bell rings and everyone leaves the classroom. DAVID meets up with KELSEY in the hall. DAVID walks up and puts his arm around KELSEY as they walk.]

KELSEY
[Looking at DAVID’S arm around her] What’s this for? [Smiles shyly.]

DAVID
He’s such a loser Kels.... you deserve so much better.

[DAVID smiles back at KELSEY and they walk off stage together.]
